This will be a virtual event held on August 24, 2021 at 7:00pm CEST (12:00pm CST).
The WASAG Water-Nutrition Partnership advances change through sharing research, practical tools, and policy dialogues. This session showcases new insights in the multiple and synergetic roles of water in food systems and for nutrition deliberated during the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit.
The United Nations has called for a first Food Systems Summit that will take place in 2021, culminating in a meeting of UN member heads of state in New York at the end of the year. Leading up to this Summit, hundreds of dialogues, thousands of documents and millions of comments have been put forward toward transforming food systems for more equitable and sustainable access, for all. There is little doubt for World Water Week participants that water is essential for a food system transformation. But to what extent was water considered in the 5 Action tracks of UNFSS that range from ensuring access to food, to nature-positive production to building resilience? And what will rural smallholders, who globally face the worst food and water security, be left with after the Summit ends? Please join us in an interview-style discussion sponsored by the CGIAR Research Program on Water, Land and Ecosystems, the WASAG Working Group on Water & Nutrition, SIWI and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
